Project Lindisfarne
Developing Scouting between Coquet and Tweed
The project personnel consist of development officer, a volunteer manager, and a steering group that represents Mid-Northumberland and North Northumberland Scout Districts.
Lindisfarne Project has been established by Northumberland County Scouts to develop Scouting in the two Districts. There are around 30 similar projects around the country, which receive support from the Scout Association Headquarters at Gilwell. Sustainability is the key objective of Project Lindisfarne, so that Scouting can continue to grow and be enjoyed in years to come.
My role is to work with the existing Districts and Groups to ensure that Scouting grows and develops, by supporting the existing structures to recruit adults and facilitate training with the executives. In Mid-Northumberland we have run a successful awareness evening attracting interest from councillors and voluntary organisations, resulting in the appointment a new District Secretary. I plan to build on the successes of the evening and work with Scout Groups to deliver a similar event in local communities. In North Northumberland we are looking to recruit a District Commissioner.
Another aspect to my role is to re-open former groups and to bring the benefits of Scouting back to communities. There is also an exciting opportunity to develop Scouting through the extended school day, which I have been exploring in Amble, Wooler and Alnwick. In the next few months I plan to run parents evenings at the schools to promote becoming involved within Scouting.
If anyone is interested in becoming involved or would like to receive more information on the project then I would be more than happy to discuss it further.
