Alnwick Scout Group

Alnwick Scout Group is made up of three sections: Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. We run a waiting list and you should contact the Group Scout Leader to enquire whether there are spaces in the group for your child and if not to place your child on the waiting list. The sections are run by voluntary warranted leaders who do not receive any pay as well as parents on a rota. All parents are expected to go on the rota as well as completing a CRB application. As a parent you will normally be expected to help once a term, however if you wish to help on more nights you will be more than welcome.

Beavers, aged 6-8, meet weekly for one hour and their programmes are based on fun and friends, they go on visits and also have interesting local people who come in and talk to them about their job e.g. We recently had a pilot from 202 Squadron who came in and showed all the kit he uses.

The Cub Pack, made up of 30 Cubs aged 8-10 & half, meet for 1 hour 30 mins weekly. As well as having opportunities for overnight camp at Powburn Scout Centre and December pack holiday at Seahouses. Other activities include District- and County-level sports competitions, outside activities and group day trips away. The Cubs do various challenges to achieve Badges leading to an increasing number of Chief Scout Silver Awards being presented (top cub award). The Cubs are arranged into four Sixes, each with a Sixer who is the leader of their Six, and a Seconder who is second in charge Sixer.

Meeting weekly for two hours a week, the Scout Troop is made up of 16 Scouts aged 10-14, in three Patrols of 6, each with a Patrol Leader (PL) and Assistant PL. Weekly meetings include first aid, climbing, expedition skills, team games and projects, visits to and by local organisations and survival skills such as fire-lighting, to mention a few. All Scouts are able to contribute to and have their say on the programme through the Troop Leadership Forum and Patrol Leaders Council. Further to regular meetings, Group, District and County activities are offered throughout the year including a recent hike up the Cheviot; three camps each year, ranging from overnight bivouacs, staying in camping barns, to large County camps with 850 fellow Scouts. The Troop is also going to Wings 2009 in the summer, an international camp with 5,000 campers from around the world.

The Group partake in many activities where Beavers, Cubs and Scouts mix with joint nights held termly between the sections. We also have an annual day trip where parents and siblings are invited to join us in the past we have been to Leeds Armouries, Beamish and BP Cairn at Humshaugh.
